'UnPlanned Journey' Yields Miraculous Results
Retired Sterling, KS educator Clara Kilbourn credits two sources for her recovery from stage four breast cancer— God ‘s miracle and Angel Flight volunteer pilots. Clara began, “One of the first things the doctor said after giving me the diagnosis was, ‘Cancer! We’ll just try to borrow some time for you.’ An experimental medical tr ial was available at M. D. Anderson that required tri-weekly treatments. I couldn’t afford the travel and was urged to move to Houston which was not an option. I would have lost my health insurance.” The last thing she expected following the devastating news was anything resembling hope. Clara, her husband William and youngest daughter Susan were distraught as they boarded the hotel shuttle to return to their hotel. On the shuttle bus coincidentally was an M. D. Anderson cancer patient who was also from Kansas. She overheard the Kilbourn’s distress and approached Clara with a hope-filled lead. She encouraged Clara to return to M. D. How Sweet the Rose
Once upon a time, Sidnie Brook-Ann Thompson’s family was having a difficult time finding anything rosy about Sidnie’s world. Weighing 9 lbs 12 ounces at her Valentine’s Day birth, by all appearances Sidney was a healthy delivery. However, at ten weeks old Sidnie was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood disease, Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis, a disease so rare (striking 1 in 200,000 children per year), there is little research into its cause and treatment since it strikes too few people to prompt government-supported research. Sidnie’s diagnosis was further complicated because her illness was one of the rarest, striking 1 in 5 million children. Six years later, she’s a healthy, promising six year old who has been in remission for almost 4 years — a remarkable contrast from the deccimated 12-pound one-year-old that caused great worry and anxiety in the Thompson household.
