Dr. Perea received an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. He received his degree of Doctor of Medicine, MD, from the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed a Residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Clinical Rheumatology at the University of New Mexico.

His clinical practice experience includes previous Emergency Medicine, and 41 years of clinical practice in Outpatient and Inpatient Medicine, Rheumatology, Nutritional Medicine, Bariatrics, Bio-identical Hormones, Medical-Legal consultation, and In-patient Hospital Medicine.
​
Dr. Perea serves on the New Mexico Medical Review Commission as a malpractice hearing panelist.​ Dr. Perea’s community activities include serving as a command pilot for Angel-Flight, an organization for non-emergency air transportion of medical patients for services around a 5 state area. He has a Private Pilot Certificate with 2000 flying hours.

He served as Lieutenant Colonel in the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol as a mission pilot, Wing Safety Officer and Wing Medical Officer.
His goals at Lovelace Healthcare are to continue to provide compassionate and comprehensive care with an emphasis in treating those medical conditions which can improve longterm health and prevent unnecessary re-hospitalization.
