Angel Flight South Central Beginnings
Robert is an instrument-rated private pilot with single and multi-engine ratings. He has been a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight South Central since 2009 and a member of the Board of Directors since 2011. Robert has flown more than 250 Angel Flight missions and has sponsored other pilots to fly an additional 330 missions in his aircraft.
Personal Stories
Robert began his career serving as an engineer and diving officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. He later attended graduate school, then worked as an engineer with the Norwegian Hydrodynamics Laboratory in the North Sea. He received his B.Sc. in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, M.Sc. in Ocean Engineering from the University of Alaska, and Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and a member of a number of professional societies.
Robert is retired from TSB Offshore, Inc., of The Woodlands, TX, a consulting and project management company he helped found in 1993. The company specializes in oil and gas field decommissioning. Prior to that, he was President of SBM IMODCO, a California-based marine contractor.
Robert is a native of Mississippi, but now considers Texas to be his home. He and his wife, Kathleen, have two daughters and a son. They are active in a broad range of charities, including their local church, Hosanna Lutheran, and the local public broadcast stations. Robert served as Chairman of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association Board of Directors and on the CG Academy Board of Trustees.
