LARRY FORNEY
Board Chair

Angel Flight South Central Beginnings
Larry joined AFSC in September of 2015 and has flown over 500 medical and humanitarian missions. He served as the Southeast Texas Wing Leader from September 2016 through September 2018 and has been a member of the Board of Directors since April 2017. In 2019, he was presented with the Distinguished Volunteer Pilot Award from the National Aeronautic Association in Washington, DC. In 2020, he was presented with AFSC’s Golden Wings Award.
“Angel Flight missions have taken my flight experiences to a new level by providing a meaningful and logistical purpose to flying. The missions support a genuine need and there is no better way to maintain proficiency and currency."
Aviation Adventures
Larry’s pilot training began after college in south Louisiana at the historic Wedell-Williams (PTN) airport. Flying as a hobby was soon interrupted by the usual – lack of funds, career, and later a family. At age 48, he was able to return to the skies in his mint condition 1948 Cessna 170 taildragger. A subsequent overseas stint interrupted flying again. Upon his return, Larry wanted to get back to flying, but he wanted a purpose. After losing his brother to pancreatic cancer in 2015, AFSC became the path and his new Cirrus SR22T became the vehicle. Larry recalls relief flights in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian as some of his most adventurous. That week of relief missions earned him Angel Flight Southeast’s Hurricane Hero Award in 2019. Larry now flies a Kodiak 100 based out of Houston Southwest Airport (AXH). .
