TROY WHISTMAN

Angel Flight South Central Beginnings

Volunteerism and giving back is a core part of Troy’s DNA. After earning his Instrument rating, Troy became active in volunteer flying for organizations that include the EAA, Young Eagles, Pilots ‘n Paws, and Challenge Air. Troy became a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight South Central in 2000. He served as the Northeast Texas Wing Leader from 2014-2018, where he helped recruit and enable new volunteer pilots to support Angel Flight's mission. Troy joined the Board of Directors in December 2017.

Aviation Adventures
Troy Whistman has always aimed his eyes skyward. His passion for aviation began as a child, building and flying model aircraft and rockets.

His formal aviation training began in the 1980s, while in high school. He learned to fly in the beautiful Pacific Northwest at Paine Field in Everett, WA. This is where Boeing's huge 747 factory is still located to this day, and where Troy honed his wake turbulence avoidance skills! After moving to Tacoma, WA, he finished his private pilot rating at Tacoma Narrows International Airport, which is perched on a carrier-like cliff several hundred feet above the waters of Puget Sound.

Personal Stories
Troy is a Sr. Director for an international data protection and information-management software firm based on the East Coast. In this role, he leads a team of subject matter experts who assist customers with complex architectural and business requirements. One of the things he loves most about his job is the flexibility and time it gives him to help others.

Troy moved to Texas with his family in 1999 for what was supposed to be a "one-year stint," but they loved Southern people and culture so much that they ended up staying and calling Texas home. Troy works out of his home office in the DFW Metroplex and typically flies a Cessna TRI 82 for his personal and charitable flights, but also right-seats (second-in-command) on the Citation 560 XLS+.
