Louisiana Regional Wing

Keith Rutherford
I was born in New Jersey, but left the country in 6th grade. My father worked for General Motors Overseas Operations, so I spent most of my life in Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. I came back to the US in 1974 and that is when I got the bug for flying. My uncle was a pilot and my cousin flew EA6Bs in the Navy. I started my first lesson in September 1974, soloed on April 15th, 1975, and my ticket on August 1, 1975.

I currently have a commercial truck dealership, Eagle Truck Center, located in Shreveport, LA, and we sell commercial medium-duty trucks. I bought this business in 2007 and moved from the Dallas/Ft Worth area after selling my ownership in a similar dealership.

My attempt to go in the Navy was, I guess, just a function of poor timing. In 1975 most of the pilots were leaving as the Vietnam War was winding down, so I decided to try commercial flying. I couldn’t make enough money, so I got a job in trucks, thus where I am today. The flying desire never left and I did continue training until I got my ATP, CFI-IA, MEI, Comm SEL and SES and have about 6,000 hours. I have owned C172, Decathlon, V35 Bonanza, and now a 95-C55 Baron. The Baron is what I use for the Angel Flights. I started Angel Flights because both of my parents died of cancer, and I was not really able to help them. This is my way to help as long as I can.

I have taken this Baron that I have owned since 2010, but have flown since 2003 and completely updated it. The panel was replaced in January 2023, paint in May 2023, and new interior in December 2023. I was getting ready to do a bunch of Angel Flights. Then Oshkosh 2024 the left engine alternator drive failed and it has been down ever since waiting on the engine. The engine was completed and I picked it up last Saturday. Now I am just waiting on the mechanic to show up to install it.
