Northeast Texas Regional Wing

Rob Garrett

Rob Garrett started his aviation career in 1971 with his first instructional flight taking place on a blustery January day in Ohio where the instructor demonstrated flying backwards due to the breezy, 40-knot headwind.

Since that time he has accumulated more than 3,400 hours through personal flying and the help of sales demonstrator aircraft while employed at Grumman American Aviation, Cessna Aircraft, Mooney Aircraft, and Lake Aircraft.

Surviving general aviation’s ups and downs through the 1970s and 1980s required many interstate moves (8); he finally returned to and settled in the D/FW Metroplex where he resides with his wife of 25 years, Judi. Rob has been employed with FlightSafety International since 1994 as Director of Sales with 12 Regional and Center Sales Managers under his leadership. Bitten by the bug of aircraft ownership, Rob tracked down the 1963 Cessna 182 his father owned in 1974.

He re-purchased the aircraft in 2014 and rebuilt it over five years; he now operates a “new” 56-year-old aircraft. Needing a weekly destination attracted him to the Angel Flight mission in 2015. Rob is excited to be part of Angel Flight South Central.

His current goal is to achieve the 100-mission mark. In his role as Wing Leader, he looks forward to working with the Northeast Texas pilot group, providing guidance and experience to current as well as incoming members.
