Southeast Texas Regional Wing
Scott Young looked hard at a career in military aviation upon his graduation as a mechanical engineer in May of 1977. Unfortunately, the country was cashing in on a peace dividend at the time and significantly reducing the size of the military.
Fortunately, the price of oil was rising rapidly and major oil companies like Amoco were hiring and paying very well for engineers that wanted to learn to become petroleum engineers.
This led to a rewarding career managing oil and gas production, as well as, the development of newly discovered oil and gas fields that continues today.
Raising a family with three children with his wife Deanna kept flying out of the picture until 2003. However, when the last child left the nest the flying conversation resumed about flying in retirement. Deanna’s response was why wait till then? Scott flew his first Angel Flight mission on October 6, 2006.
His decision to join was based on an ad in a flying magazine and after the first flight, he was hooked. On September 17, 2018, he flew his 300th Angel Flight mission and hopes to complete another 200 before “retiring” from flying patients.
The experience continues to be as rewarding as the first mission. In addition to flying, Scott served with Todd Quesnel as co-Wing Leaders of the Angel Flight SE Wing from 2013 through 2015. In 2016, he decided to go back to just flying until Todd asked him to resume the role as the Angel Flight SE Wing Leader on September 24, 2018.
Scott flies a 55 Baron out of Conroe (KCXO) and looks forward to working with all the pilots in the wing to grow both the membership and mission count in the wing. Angel Flight South Central is a great organization that provides pilots the opportunity to be someone’s hero doing something they would find a reason to do anyway.
It does not get any better than that.
